University of Strathclyde, GlasgowStudent Profile - Yazariah Mohd Yatim

PhD in Applied Mathematics

I’m a Malaysian studying for a PhD in applied mathematics in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Strathclyde. When I finished my Masters degree in Malaysia I was awarded a scholarship for postgraduate study and, after considering lots of different universities, I decided to move across the world to Glasgow. This turned out to be the right choice and I immediately felt welcomed and comfortable in a very friendly department. During my first year I’ve learnt a great deal thanks to the endless support and encouragement from my supervisors. Furthermore, if ever need to share a problem I can turn to my “Senior Friend” who is also happy to help and advise. Studying here has given me many opportunities to meet other postgraduates and researchers from all over the world through seminars and conferences where we can share ideas and knowledge. I’m thoroughly enjoying my time studying here and am really looking forward to what I can achieve during the rest of my studies.
