The International Foundation Course is a challenging,
intensive programme which provides an alternative
route for those who wish to progress on to Higher
Education but do not yet possess the necessary entry
requirements for University study.
The programme is divided into three parts:
English for International Students: At least
3 hours of Academic English per week.
Main Subjects: Students can choose three or
four subjects from one of the following areas: Humanities
/ Social Sciences, Legal Studies, Art and Design,
Business, Computer Studies, Life and Biological Sciences,
Combined Studies.
Core Skills: The compulsory core skills of
Communications, Numeracy, Information Technology and
Study Skills.
National Diploma Courses are vocational courses designed
for students who would like a qualification equal
to A-level standard in a work related subject. They
offer a good balance of theory and practice with an
emphasis on "learning by doing".
These programmes involve work placements and different
types of learning methods from those traditionally
used.
The section of Hairdressing, Beauty and Holistic
Therapy offers a wide range of courses from
within this ever changing and exciting industry
sector.
The qualifications vary from NVQ Level 1 to
Level 3 and include the following subjects:
Hairdressing, Beauty
Therapy, Holistic Therapy,
Anatomy & Physiology, Indian head
massage, Advanced Aromatherapy,
Reflexology, On site
massage, Spa Therapy, Customer
service, Business and Management,
Manicure & Pedicure,
Cosmetic makeup, etc
All courses provide students with the opportunity
of working in one (or more) of our commercial
salons or clinics (see below). Students work
on clients from the general public, providing
them with realistic commercial experience.
Most of our qualifications are on offer with
a variety of study options: These include full
time, part time, evening, Saturday, weekend,
intense short courses and distance learning.

The progression routes and employment opportunities
are vast. Some employment opportunities available
to our students include: Hair stylists, clinics, spa
and salon managers, salon owners, colour artists,
technical representatives or trainers working in hospitals,
department stores, on cruise liners, airlines and
many more.
The
Design Academy
Coleg Glan Hafren, home of Cardiff College
International, opened its state of the art training
salon in the heart of Cardiff last year. The
Design Academy, a four storey hair, beauty and
holistic treatment centre, is one of the biggest
and most up to date salons in Cardiff.
We are the only college in Wales that has
such a prestigious facility.
This fantastic salon is a commercial venture
open to members of the public and treatments
are administered by excellently trained students
at extremely competitive prices.
Treatments include a full hair-dressing service
and a full range of Beauty and Holistic treatments.
The Design Academy
Customer care is the key to our industry and so to
ensure a high standard of customer satisfaction we
offer a loyalty card system, client promotions, free
consultations and in depth health care advice to all
our clients.
The college also operates two other training salons
located in our City Centre campus. All our salons
are professionally managed, with student education
and client care being seen as the key priority.
