Why Study in Canada?

Each year, tens of thousands of students choose Canada as their study destination. Whether it's high school, ESL of FSL training, graduate or undergraduate studies, or career and technical training they require, international students will find variety of superior education options in Canada, and a warm, welcoming environment in which to pursue them.

There are many reasons why international students are attracted to Canada:

Quality education

Canadians place a premium on education, and demand first-rate schools. Canada spends more per capita on its education system than any other country in the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development: 7.1% of gross domestic product (GDP) compared with an average of 6.1% in other countries. A degree from a Canadian University is recognized worldwide. International Students who graduate from Canadian universities enjoy successful and prosperous careers.

Low tuition costs

Canadian universities charge lower tuition rates for international students than their counterparts in competing countries. At the same time, these institutions maintain excellent educational quality.

Welcoming environment

Canada is a country of immigrants, and has both a tradition and policy of encouraging multicultural diversity. Almost all of the world's ethnic groups are represented in Canada. As a result, most ethnic foods and recreational activities associated with specific cultures are available in Canada. Clubs and associations representing a multitude of ethnic backgrounds are also easily accessible. International student advisors at schools can help students get in touch with such groups.

Ranked as the Number One Country in the World.

Throughout the 1990's, a United Nations survey found Canada to be the best place in the world to live. Canada earns particularly high marks for its access to education, high life expectancy (due to universal health care system) and low crime and violence rates.

A Country with Endless Recreation Possibilities.

Canada is a vast beautiful country stretching from the Pacific to the Atlantic Oceans, and has a variety of tourist destinations. Wherever you choose to study in Canada, you will discover a multitude of cultural, leisure and other activities year-round. The country boasts many world-class museums, galleries, exciting nightlife and seasonal festivals. It also has a beautiful countryside, which means that outdoor recreational activities are very popular here, from swimming and snowboarding in the winter to hiking, camping, windsurfing and sailing in the summer.

The Canadian Education System

The Canadian education system includes both publicly funded and private schools, from kindergarten through to pre-university. Education is a provincial responsibility, under the Canadian constitution, which means there are significant differences between the education systems of the different provinces. However, standards across the country are uniformly high.

The school year in Canada normally runs from September through to the following June, but in some instances January intake dates are possible. In general, Canadian children attend kindergarten for one or two years at the age of four or five on a voluntary basis. All children begin Grade One around the age of six. Secondary schools go up to grades 11,12 or 13, depending on the province.
